The Last Day of School

It’s almost the last day of school. No.. I’m not moving just yet. Remember that I have a toooonnnnn of things to do and get rid of. I’m planning to make things easy and donate a lot of my old stuff to Goodwill and family. I am saying goodbye to a lot of people this week, because this is my last week at work! Yay! Yay! Yay! I could say Yay forever, but I won’t due to the tons of things to do.

The Last Day of School is Friday
Anywho, I teach in a public school, and I am so glad that this Friday is the last day for students. Yes. We are still in school. We began the year later than most other districts. I learned a great deal as a public school teacher in a rural area, and I’ve heard some things come out of children’s mouths that I never thought that they’d say to an adult. I’ve seen children make some very bad decisions. They really can refuse to see and hear reason, before, during and after the bad decisions. I am aware of students who have simply vanished from classes, and I’ve heard that some have gotten in trouble with the law, or dropped out because they didn’t want to continue doing the school thing. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some bright spots in the year, however, the bright spots are far and few between. They are blessings, though, and I have to acknowledge that they did exist.

Teachers Must Pray A lot
I have spent may days frustrated, overwhelmed, and tired, yet I prayed for strength, put on my cheerleader face and tried to get students interested in learning. Most of the time they ignored me until it sunk in, sporadically, or at the last minute, that they did happen to want to pass the class. A school teacher must feel appreciated and loved by God, because it is very possible that in the United States, she will feel appreciation from her sheep.

I have been looking forward to this week for so long, that it seemed as though it would never get here. I am going to miss some of the students, teachers and administrators with whom I have had the pleasure to work. I only have tears of joy that I have managed to keep my students whole in the classroom and that I have almost made it through, alive and sane. I think that I am going to do a happy dance during the school’s graduation ceremony, and another one after the last teacher’s workday. Thank God for the last day of school.

I hear you. I’m a teacher as well and I can totally relate to that feeling of just trying to keep it together to get through that last week. You made it!

If you’re anything like me, I need a short recovery time afterwards– a few days during which I am completely wiped out and out of sorts. Then I get through the haze and feel so energized and like I have a new lease on life! In your case, you can get excited about your whole new Korea life!
