From Korea to Thailand

Since the holidays are upon us, I thought that I’d write a post today to help out anyone who may be interested in traveling to Thailand from South Korea. First off, you must research the best dates for your trip. Thailand has a low season, which is also the wet season, a peak season, and a high season for visiting. The peak and high seasons are the best time to go to Thailand. So, if you are planning to go from December to April, you are probably okay!

How to Travel to Thailand

You can fly directly from Busan or Seoul. Book your flight as early as possible. If you are a foreigner and you do not have a credit card or a bank card with a Visa, Mastercard logo, it is possible to pay cash for your ticket. You can buy your ticket at the airport as far as possible in advance of your trip. You can also book online and pay in person. Try using Thailand Airline and book online. Choose the option to go to a ticket agent in the departing city and pay within 72 hours. You must pay within 72 hours!

Areas to Visit in Thailand
Most people fly into Bangkok, which is a large city. I haven’t been there yet, but a friend of mine told me that it was rather polluted, and I read that there are the typical scammers around trying to pull a fast over on tourists. With that said, there are plenty of things to do in Bangkok. Bangkok has good shopping and sights. If you decide to go, visit some temples like the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Po. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha contains some of the precious, and beautiful artifacts from Thailand. People come to Wat Po to see the golden Buddha there. He is lying down. Not exactly in Bangkok, but nearby, people visit the Floating Market, just to see people buying wares off of boats. The sellers are in the boats.

Beaches in Thailand
A lot of people head to Phuket from Bangkok. My initial impressions are that Phuket is touristy and it can be crowded during the peak and high seasons. I also read that Phuket can be expensive, but a lot of people go and stay in the hostels. If you want to party, meet great people and party some more, go to Phuket!

Full Moon in Thailand

Of course, Phuket is not the only partying island in Thailand. Koh Phangan is renowned for its Full Moon party. Basically people come from all over the world to party under the beautiful full moon in Thailand. I read that this is the party of all parties and drugs may be involved, so be careful!

Islands in Thailand
Phi Phi is one of the most beautiful and popular islands in Thailand, but it is also highly developed and it can be crowded. It can also be expensive. You can fly right into Krabi and visit Phi Phi or commute from Phuket. I recommend traveling to Koh Lanta. I haven’t been there as of yet, but it looks lovely and peaceful. You can definitely island hop to a few islands in Thailand because there is good transportation to get to some of the other Thailand islands. Here are some other islands in Thailand!

How to Travel to the Islands
You can travel from Phuket by boat to many of the islands. You can also travel by van.

  • Koh Lanta says:

Bangkok is busy. Getting away from the city to the remoter locations is well worth while. We went to Lanta, near Phi Phi and prectically had the whole beach to ourselves. It was paradise.

From what I have researched about the area, I agree! Thanks for writing!

I will start teaching in Korea in Feb. I wanted to ask you about holiday time off. How much time do you get for each summer and winter break? I’m assuming it’s at least 5 days if you are planning a trip to Thailand. Thanks! Love your site!

  • admin says:

Your time off depends on your contract, and your school. The school can sometimes give you more days. Yes. I have at least 5 days off for both breaks, ten days for winter.

  • Hey there,

I guess, the best time visiting Thailand would be during the low season (At least its the nicest season for us and we live here). I know, it rains sometimes but its not so hot, there aren`t thousands of tourists frying on the beaches and you find peace and relaxation as well! I always recommend good friends to come over here, when the prices are down and the weather forgiving and when there`s peace on Phuket :)
Best regards and thanks for your article.

  • We recently got back from our vacation to Phuket and really wish that we didn’t have to leave so soon as we absolutely loved it and will definitely come again! We stayed at The Bungalow Mountain Resort which we would for certain recommend. We rented a motorbike at $60 for 9 days, it was by far the most cost effective and a convienent way to go and it was alot of fun as well! The zoo is definitely worth while taking a trip. Also restaurants in Phuket to visit are The Sweet n Spicy-romantic, delish and trendy. Book a table with your feet in the ocean!
